Phantomas Raids the Museum in New Amstrad CPC Game from The Mojon Twins

The Mojon Twins Unleash Another 8-Bit Museum Piece.

Just when you thought it was safe to hang up your joystick, those prolific purveyors of pixelated pleasure, The Mojon Twins, have gifted the Amstrad CPC scene another dose of retro goodness. Their latest offering, 'Phantomas en el Museo', sees the return of the titular 80s anti-hero in a classic arcade platformer setting, released the 10 April 2025.

Our hero, Phantomas, finds his intergalactic downtime – complete with a refreshing lemon Coca-Cola, no less – rudely interrupted by an SMS alert. It seems spectral ne'er-do-wells, dubbed 'Los Malotes', have staged a rather hostile takeover of the IAACC Pablo Serrano museum in Zaragoza, Spain. Never one to miss an opportunity for… ahem… acquiring fine art, Phantomas sets his spaceship's autopilot and heads for trouble. It transpires the ghostly gang has already laid waste to much of the collection, leaving only five specific pieces by sculptor Pablo Serrano and his wife Juana Francés intact.

The mission, should you choose to accept it (and you really should, as the game is available on a 'name your own price' basis, with the default price at $2), involves guiding Phantomas through the museum's various floors, from basement to terrace. Gameplay revolves around classic platforming action: navigating levels, grabbing access cards to unlock new areas, and nabbing those five surviving artworks – specifically the 'Fajadito' (1964), 'Ritmo en el espacio' (1959), 'Drama y quema del objeto' (1957-1959), 'cabeza de Machado' (1984), and 'una pequeña guitarra' (1985). Direct confrontation isn't an option; the Malotes are invincible, requiring nimble dodging lest they send Phantomas spiralling towards a game over screen. Control is handled either via joystick or the traditional O/P/Q/A key setup for left, right, high jump, and long jump respectively.

Developed using The Mojon Twins' own MK1 PSTCRA engine, alongside tools like Cprslib by Artaburu and WyzPlayer, the game boasts graphics by na_th_an and anjuel, code by na_th_an, and a suitably atmospheric chiptune soundtrack courtesy of Davidian (Murciano). It’s another polished slice of homebrew action that captures the spirit of classic 8-bit platformers while adding that characteristic Mojon Twins flair.

For Amstrad CPC fans, 'Phantomas en el Museo' looks like another essential download from a team that consistently delivers quality homebrew experiences. Just remember to keep your eyes peeled for those pesky Malotes.
