Lost Nokia N-Gage Title "Katz vs Maus" Unearthed by Bitmap Bureau

A previously undiscovered Nokia N-Gage game, "Katz vs Maus," has been revealed by indie studio Bitmap Bureau, N-Gage creator Michael Fitzmayer and shared on Games That Weren't. This top-down scrolling maze game, reminiscent of Pac-Man with visuals echoing ChuChu Rocket!, casts players as a mouse dodging a cat while collecting cheese.

Development likely halted when Nokia phased out the N-Gage platform around 2005, but the programmer reportedly still holds the source code and a working SIS file, raising hopes for its preservation. Bitmap Bureau, the UK team behind retro-inspired titles like Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta, partnered with Fitzmayer, a software developer known for his N-Gage passion projects—including a 2022 Wordle port and tools to modernise Symbian development.

The N-Gage, launched in 2003 as a bold phone-console hybrid, sold just 3 million units and struggled with design flaws, yet it retains a dedicated cult following. "Katz vs Maus" underscores the wealth of unreleased games from this ambitious but ill-fated platform. We’ll update this story as more details emerge; kudos to Bitmap Bureau and Fitzmayer for uncovering this lost piece of gaming history and sharing the assets.
