Double Dragon Revive to Include Bonus Dodgeball-Inspired Retro Game

Arc System Works reveals an additional pre-order bonus for upcoming beat-’em-up revival

Arc System Works has announced that Double Dragon Revive, the upcoming reboot of the classic arcade beat-‘em-up series, will include an unexpected bonus: a secondary game inspired by Technos Japan’s 1987 sports title Super Dodge Ball. The additional game, titled Double Dragon Dodgeball, will be available as a free bonus for those who pre-order the main game ahead of its October 2025 release.

This surprise inclusion ties together two well-known properties from the same developer lineage. Super Dodge Ball, originally released in arcades and later on the NES, was known for its exaggerated dodgeball mechanics and distinctive pixel art style. While not as globally prominent as Double Dragon, it remains a cult favourite among retro game enthusiasts.

Double Dragon Dodgeball will feature both Story and Versus modes. The Story Mode centres on the rescue of Marian, a recurring character in the Double Dragon series, and includes familiar characters Billy and Jimmy. Players will compete in dodgeball matches while advancing through a structured narrative campaign. The Versus Mode will allow for more traditional quick-play matches.

The main title, Double Dragon Revive, is being developed by Yuke’s, the Japanese studio known for its work on wrestling and fighting games. It promises a modern take on the side-scrolling beat-’em-up genre while retaining many of the original characters and design elements that defined the series in the late 1980s. The game is scheduled to release on 23rd October 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

At this time, there are no confirmed plans to bring the title to the Nintendo Switch.

Pre-orders are now open through major digital storefronts (Steam, Playstation and Xbox) . Those who secure the game in advance will receiveDouble Dragon Dodgeball at no additional cost.

This bonus content offers added value for fans of retro gaming, particularly those with nostalgia for the Technos arcade era. It also suggests that Arc System Works is interested in reviving more than just the Double Dragon franchise, possibly testing the waters for future reimaginings.
