🎶And then a H.E.R.O comes along🎶

You can now scratch that H.E.R.O Itch on PC.

Gamers who fondly remember the golden age of Atari are in for a treat. The classic game 'H.E.R.O.', originally released in 1984 for systems like the Atari 800/2600, ColecoVision, C64, C128, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum, has been remade for PC. This updated version is now available for download through itch.io, courtesy of Langford Productions, as recently announced by Liqmatrix.

'H.E.R.O.' puts players in the role of Rodderick Hero, tasked with navigating a treacherous cave system to rescue miners trapped within Mount Leone. Players will need to master the game's unique prop-pack controls and physics to succeed in their rescue mission.

The original 'H.E.R.O.' was written by John Van Ryzin and debuted on the Atari 2600. It was widely regarded as one of the best games available for the platform. The remake draws inspiration from the Sinclair Spectrum version of the game, aiming to recapture the spirit of the classic while bringing it to a new generation of players.

"Volcanic activity has trapped miners in mineshafts in Mount Leone," reads the game's description. "I shall use equipment (some think it rather nifty) of my own invention to help miners no mere mortal can reach. It would give me great pleasure to have your help."

For those looking to revisit a piece of gaming history or experience 'H.E.R.O.' for the first time, the PC remake offers a chance to embark on a heroic adventure. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the prop-pack controls – as the developers advise, mastering the physics is key to success. You can find the Itch page here, and you can download the game (29mb) from here.
